Let’s talk about night sweats & Hot flashes ladies!

This topic comes up time and time again during consultations with my clients when I ask the question ‘what is the main symptom you would like support with?'

The reply is often -  'perspiring during the night & hot flushes.’

Going through the menopause journey myself, I completely empathise with my clients- waking up during the night, body feeling like it has endured a 20-mile run dressed head to toe in an impermeable padded costume!

Waking up shattered as though the sleep pixie has paid you a visit during the night and sprinkled exhaustion dust all over you and stolen your brain and replaced it with cotton wool!

It’s hard to function for the rest of the day as sleep patterns have been disturbed!

So, let's discuss what happens when we have night sweats and how we can help reduce them with the use of Complementary therapies.

The beauty of using Complementary therapies is that with guidance, it is safe to incorporate them alongside mainstream medicine.

What are Night sweats & Hot flushes?

Night sweats & Hot flashes (also known as hot flushes) are often caused by changing hormone levels with sweating and rapid heartbeat. They are typically experienced as a feeling of intense heat starting suddenly with a heating sensation predominantly in the head and neck and upper body including the back.

How can Complementary therapies help?

Aromatherapy is one of the therapies that can be very effective to help alleviate symptoms of night sweats & hot flushes as certain molecules in essential oils resemble hormones, effective to help increase oestrogen. I am in favour that if you have anything laying around at home that you can safely utilise to support your symptom management, use it.

Anita’s tip of the day- If you have some aloe vera gel left over from your holiday (ensure it's in date), you can add some with the essential oils to help cool the skin.
