What is Hypnotherapy?
At LiveWell Practice, we offer hypnotherapy, a powerful psychological therapy that combines talk therapy with hypnosis. During hypnotherapy sessions, I will guide you into a relaxed, trance-like state where your mind becomes more open to positive suggestions. This helps reinforce the effectiveness of the talk therapy, allowing you to experience an uplifting period of peace and calm.
How Does Hypnotherapy Work?
Hypnotherapy works by helping you make beneficial changes at the subconscious level of your mind, where positive transformations originate. Since many of your thoughts, responses, and behaviours are driven by the subconscious mind, hypnotherapy allows me to provide suggestions that help reshape these patterns in a beneficial way over the course of multiple sessions.
I also offer sessions to reframe your perspective on your experiences. Sometimes these will be times you remember and sometimes the events will be brought back into your conscious mind, and you may have forgotten all about them. For example, I used to have a fear of heights and a time when I was 10 years old up in a tree and fearful of falling was brought to mind. I helped my younger self feel safe as she climbed down to the ground, and this resolved my fear.
Is Hypnotherapy Safe?
Yes, hypnotherapy is generally considered safe when conducted by trained and qualified professionals. I prioritise your well-being and follow strict codes of conduct, ethics, and safeguarding guidelines. You remain fully in control during hypnosis and cannot be made to do anything against your will.
Are You in Control When Hypnotised?
Absolutely. You cannot be hypnotised to do anything against your will or values. You maintain complete control and allow yourself to enter the hypnotic state willingly. If any suggestions during hypnosis contradict your personal ethics or values, you will reject them. Hypnosis is a collaborative, consent-based process, and you retain the ability to end the session at any time.
What Qualifications Should I Look for in a Hypnotherapist?
I recommend seeking practitioners registered with reputable organisations like the National Council for Hypnotherapy or the General Hypnotherapy Register. Feel free to ask about my training, qualifications, and ongoing professional development during your initial consultation.
How Many Sessions Are Needed?
The number of hypnotherapy sessions required can vary depending on your individual needs and the issues being addressed. Some clients may experience positive changes after just a few sessions, while others may require more to achieve their desired results. On average, clients typically need 4-8 sessions to create a solid foundation of change for andy peri/menopausal symptoms, for example anxiety and stress-related issues.
Can Everyone Be Hypnotised?
Most people can be hypnotised to some degree as long as they are willing and open to the process. The effectiveness of hypnotherapy depends on your motivation and commitment to the process. I tailor my approach to suit your specific needs and ensure the suggestions provided are relevant and personalised.
What's the Difference Between Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis involves guiding you into a hypnotic trance-like state, while hypnotherapy combines hypnosis with talking therapy or psychotherapy. This combination of talk therapy with hypnosis can be an effective way to overcome many issues caused or exacerbated by stress and anxiety, as it creates positive changes at both the conscious and subconscious levels.
How Long Does Hypnosis Last?
A typical hypnotherapy session at LiveWell Practice lasts approximately 60 minutes. For lasting change, you'll need more than one hypnosis session, as the repetition of positive suggestions gradually conditions your thinking and reinforces positive changes in your mind. The number of sessions required for lasting change differs for each individual.
Is Online Hypnotherapy Effective?
Yes, online hypnotherapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions for many people. Research suggests that online hypnotherapy is successful in addressing issues and conditions such as anxiety and stress. Our virtual sessions, conducted via platforms like Zoom, allow you to access therapy from the comfort of your own space with a good internet connection.
Does Hypnotherapy Work for Anxiety Disorders?
Hypnotherapy is very effective for anxiety-related conditions, including generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety, and specific phobias. The relaxation and positive suggestions provided during hypnosis can help reframe negative thought patterns and behaviours, encouraging healthier ways of thinking and responding to anxious situations. We build a toolbox of strategies that work for you. This can also include mindfulness.
What Are the Side Effects of Hypnosis?
Generally, the side effects of hypnosis as part of a hypnotherapy programme for anxiety are positive, as it helps calm the mind and body, regulating and balancing the nervous system. However, hypnosis may not be suitable for those with severe mental health disorders like chronic depression, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia with psychotic symptoms. In such cases, we recommend exploring other treatment options with your healthcare provider.
Can I Get Hypnotherapy on the NHS?
Hypnotherapy is not usually available through the NHS, so it is unlikely you would receive a referral. However, organisations like NICE do recommend hypnotherapy for certain conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Can Hypnotherapy Help with Other Mental Health Conditions?
Yes, hypnotherapy can help with various mental health conditions often caused or exacerbated by peri/menopause such as stress and anxiety, depression, panic disorder, social phobia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and insomnia. It can also help increase self-esteem and confidence, overcome fears and phobias, stop procrastination, and manage chronic pain. Hypnotherapy can also help you become more focussed.
